1. There are 8 different ecosystems in the preserve including dune, prairie, woodland, and savanna

2. There are multiple benches along the trail to pause and take in the view

3. There is a parking lot at the entrance of the park (but it is a bit of a walk)

4. The park overlooks Lake Michigan at multiple spots along the trail

5. The sanctuary is next to a public beach and golf course

6. Lots of birds and butterflies in the park

7. The wildflowers are absolutely beautiful during the spring and summer

8. The park and boardwalks are well kept by the employees, stewards, and volunteers

9. Variety of native plants make up the majority of the sanctuary

  1. I recently visited Chicago for the first time and fell in love with the city. We didn’t make it to the south shore. I guess I have a reason to go back!

  2. As a nature lover, I add South Shore Nature Sanctuary to my bucket list, and I’m going to visit this place while in Chicago. I like bird photography, and it’s great to know that there are 8 different ecosystems including dune, woodland, and savanna.

  3. The South Shore Nature Sanctuary looks like a wonderful hike in Chicago. My kid would enjoy exploring and taking lots of photos.
