Family Trip to the Morton Arboretum

If you are looking for a half day or day trip near Chicago, the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL is a perfect choice. There is so much to do and see while visiting the Arboretum, I cannot wait to go back.

They currently have the Human + Nature exhibit along with a handful of other fun exhibitions you can check out here.

The Human + Nature exhibit was really amazing to see. You can find five different larger than life sculptures filter throughout the Arboretum created by the artist, Daniel Popper. The arboretum’s explains that this exhibition is showing the connection between people and trees. Make sure to click the above link to read more!

After we explored the Human + Nature exhibition, we made our way to the Children’s Garden.

Details of the Children’s Garden

The Children’s Garden is a perfect spot to spend the day with family. I visited with my friends, one who has a baby and it was so fun to explore this part of the arboretum.

Use this map to help navigate the arboretum and locate The Children’s Garden.

We walked through the garden in less than an hour and stopped to see a few sites. With that being said, if you have children who are explorers at heart, I would definitely plan for more time as there is truly something for everyone. Find more details here and below for a few quick highlights.

  • Fun nature-ish questions along the trail. See below for an example and be sure to stop by to see all the others.
  • When the group is starting to get hungry, there are picnic areas within the garden’s that allow you to get some fuel in you and the family before continuing on to the next adventure.
  • Be sure to explore one of the coolest parks I’ve ever seen. This allows kids to enjoy a day in nature while playing in a kid-friendly environment.
  • Finally, there is a wading pond that is featured throughout the garden. This will let the family cool off in the summer months and provides a unique summer activity for the kids.
