Wonderful Coffee Shop and Park in the South Loop

Spoke & Bird coffee shop and Chicago Women’s Park & Garden

Are you looking for the perfect nature escape in the busy city? One of my favorite spots in the city happens to be next to my favorite farm-to-table coffee shop. I highly suggest ordering a coffee and snack from Spoke and Bird followed by an hour at Chicago Women’s Park & Garden.

Details about Spoke and Bird

More details! Spoke and Bird is my favorite coffee shop in the South Loop. It is perfect for a quick coffee, or grabbing breakfast with an old friend, or spending a few hours there getting some work done.

Let me tell you about their amazing patio. It has ample areas of shade and sunny tables. I make sure to grab a shady spot if I plan on working on the computer. I love a sunny spot if I have enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend.

Another important thing to us at A Nature Escape is supporting locals. Spoke & Bird does just this. They pride themselves on being a farm-to-table eatery. Most of their food comes directly from local farms. Which is so important to us here at Nature Escape.

Of course this farm-to-table approach makes for a great meal! I have enjoyed everything I have ordered at Spoke and Bird. Below are a list of some of my favorites:

  • Blueberry muffin
  • Tomato soup and grilled cheese
  • Granola and yogurt
  • The coffee! I love a good cup of black coffee, and they always have a few options to choose from

How Fern spent her morning

Mid morning, I grabbed a muffin and spent some time relaxing in Chicago Women’s Park & Garden.

Did you know that this park is named to celebrate the women who have impacted Chicago? I enjoyed reading more about these women here.

Although this is not hiking trip, Women’s Park & Garden is absolutely beautiful park. It is my go-to spot if I just want to relax. It is a small but mighty park.

While you are there, make sure you check out the community garden area with raised beds. Individuals and organizations interested in getting a garden plot, visit this website.

Furthermore, there are two historical houses on the property. I have not toured the houses yet because I prefer nature over history! However if you are a history buff, you should definitely sign up for a tour at the Glessnor House and the Henry B Clarke Museum.
