We have been going to Richmond, Illinois since we were little kids. Our parents are big fans of antiques and Richmond used to be filled with endless antique stores. The town has changed a little, but we still visit Richmond on a regular basis when traveling to Wisconsin. This blog post will tell you our favorite spots. Fern has her preferences, while Olive has her go to stops. Despite our different preferences, we both love nature and local businesses in Richmond. We hope this blog post excites you about visiting Richmond soon!
Breakfast & Coffee
Olive’s Choice: Olive loves to start her days with a book, so you can find her with a coffee and a book on the patio at Sweet Angeline’s.
Fern’s choice: Fern loves to sit in a coffee shop working on her computer. She gets her best ideas when she is sitting at the Richmond Café with a vanilla latte.
Hike
Olive’s Choice: Olive loves a small town vibe so the Prairie Trail is her ideal hike when visiting Richmond. You see streets, bridges, local stores, the Nippersink creek, and houses while walking along the trail.
Fern’s choice: Fern prefers bird noises and trees when she hikes, so the Coyote Loop Trail at Glacial Park is her choice.
Local Store
Olive’s Choice: Olive loves supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs and Harper G! Mercantile is full of gift ideas for all the people in her life.
Fern’s choice: Fern loves a good antique store and resale shop, and The Store is one of her favorite antique stores in the area.
Lunch
Olive’s Choice: Olive loves Italian food so she looks forward to Paisano’s on Broadway whenever she passes through Richmond. She loves dining in and take out from this restaurant.
Fern’s choice: Fern loves a good pretzel and burger for lunch. BratHaus is perfect for a snack (hot pretzel) or a full meal.
Desert
Olive’s Choice: Olive loves ice cream so Ivy’s Oh So Sweet is her preference. On Friday’s they do Flight Friday’s where you get to try a variety of ice cream. Yum!
Fern’s choice: Fern loves a good chocolate covered pretzel so Anderson’s Candy Shop is her go-to. Anderson’s has been around since 1919 and is one of the best chocolate shops in the Midwest.
I love how you both have different preferences on the area! Reading both, I can definitely see that there is something for everyone, and that is wonderful.
Richmond is actually on my list of places to visit this summer! Thanks for giving me more of a reason to go there.
Thanks for sharing! I always love spots with good eats, shopping and hiking trails, it sounds like my kind of town to visit.
Looks great! I love downtowns in general, these are all very energetic places, always pleasant and unique in the face. I have never though about traveling to Richmond but if I have a chance I would
