1. Paul Langue Arboretum

Rose: The trees are older and there is lots of room for a shady picnic or spot to read a book in the summer.
Thorn: No bathroom at the park
2. Ben Dibble Trail

Rose: Beautiful one-way trail along the peaceful and quiet Lake Comus
Thorn: You have to park at the Paul Langue Arboretum to access the Ben Dibble trail by foot
3. Ora Rice Arboretum

Rose: There is a part of the park that feels like a tunnel of coniferous trees and its dreamy in the winter season
Thorn: Newer arboretum so smaller trees and less shade in the summer
4. Springs Park

Rose: The hiking trail is along side Swan Creek. If you love hikes next to a body of water, this is your trail.
Thorn: Not all trail access points have parking lots.
5. Congdon Gardens

Rose: Beautiful structures built to make a true garden feel
Thorn: The immediate view is nice, but if you look beyond the park you see highway and buildings
6. Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy

Rose: 3 parking lots with 3 access points to the trails
Thorn: Since it is a conservancy area, some of the trails might be under construction when you visit
7. White River County Park

Rose: Variety of ecosystems. You will hike through sunny spots, shaded forests, and along the river.
Thorn: A few hills that may be difficult for some hikers
8. Four Seasons Nature Preserve

Rose: Multiple shelters to have a picnic lunch
Thorn: The dog area is wonderful, but it is not fenced in. Not ideal for puppies or runners.

Rose: Beautiful hike in all seasons, but especially in the winter
Thorn: Pay to park in the state park
Lovely trails! I love hiking beside a body of water, so I think, if given the chance, I’d try the one in Springs Park first.
